40th Anniversary of Live Aid

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, the groundbreaking dual-venue concert held on July 13, 1985, that proved music isn’t just entertainment, t’s a force for global good. Organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid brought together the biggest names in music, from Queen and David Bowie to U2 and The Who, using their voices to shine a light on the devastating famine in Ethiopia.

But beyond the unforgettable sets and iconic moments like Freddie Mercury’s electric command of Wembley Stadium, Live Aid set the blueprint for how music could drive massive social change. It raised over £125 million (£300 million today) and sparked future charity events like Live 8 and countless artist-led benefit concerts.
Four decades on, Live Aid’s legacy still resonates. It proved that music has the power to unite borders, ignite empathy, and turn stadium anthems into life-saving action. It’s a reminder that when artists and fans come together, they can amplify more than just sound, they can amplify hope.
