Festival fashion made simple

After the last few weeks, we think it’s safe to say that festival season is in full swing! Whether you have been lucky enough to grace Victoria Park for the marathon of festivals it has showcased (Field Day, Lovebox and most recently BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend), scathe with jealousy at the footage on the television or even just register for your Glastonbury 2013 ticket (364 days away exactly, not that we’re counting!) you were probably involved in the festival hype somehow!

Along with the music itself, we’ve also been watching to see which outfits appear on stage and have noticed a definite trend emerging – rock t-shirts paired with eclectic denim shorts, the definitive festival staple.

If you want to follow the stylish footsteps of Lana Del Rey, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah get yourself over to Pulp’s Amplified collection and bag your own rock tee. Layer under a khaki or leather jacket and wear with your best denims – festival fashion, done!

Klaxons ‘Surfing the Void’ is more nu metal than nu rave

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Klaxons second album which was released on Monday is influenced by another alternative sub culture and is not just more of the nu rave sounds that earned them critical acclaim with their first album in 2007. Surfing the Void has been produced by Ross Robinson who in the past has worked with metal bands such as Korn and Slipnot. Tracks such as the recent single ‘Echoes’ are reminiscent of the style on Myths of the Near Future and the record in it’s entirety doesn’t abandon the sound that has made them so popular. However, Ross’s influence on the album is said to have pushed the band closer to nu metal as guitar riffs and a distorted rock sound feature heavily. Fans will be pleased that the band have continued to experiment whilst still having made another dance record.

Actors to play ageing rock musicians in forthcoming British film about band hoax

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

The BBC has reported that filming has begun for a film inspired by a real life hoax that took place in 2004 in order to expose ageism in the music industry. Around six years ago Alarm front man Mike Peters penned and released a comeback single which was then performed/mimed by a more youthful The Poppy Fields – a band that formed only as part of the hoax. The single made the top 30.  Lily Allens dad Keith Allen and ex-Eastenders geezer Phil Daniel will star in Vinyl which is based on these events.
