Foxboro Hot Tubs: the mysterious side of Green Day

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Back in 2007, a mysterious garage rock group released an album called Stop Drop and Roll!. They called themselves the Foxboro Hot Tubs, but their distinctive sound led many music lovers to compare them with the Californian band Green Day.

However, they weren’t entirely wrong. The members of Green Day started a second band, following their successful album “American Idiot” in 2006.

Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool and Billie Joe Armstrong under the pseudonym of Reverend Strychnine Twitch, had to admit the relationship and reveal their identities in a U.S. tour called the “Foxboro Hot Tubs Tour”.

“The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we are the same band,” Armstrong told the magazine NME after telling all the truth. And was Armstrong right, because Foxboro’s music ain’t Green Day’s punk rock, instead they go for sixties sounds with a hint of the Beach Boys.

Green Day won’t disappear for now, but Foxboro Hot Tubs ain’t going nowhere either, and many of the Billie Joe followers are confident that they will surprise us again.
