It has been revealed that one of the highlights of British music during the early 90s, Ian Brown and the The Stones Roses legendary ‘Spike Island’ event will become a backdrop to an all new movie!!
For those of you not in the know about this epic one off gig in 1990, ‘Spike Island’ was an open air event that became a major highpoint in the The Stone Roses’s career.
Up to a massive 30,000 fans flocked to experience the gig and all round good times taking place on a grassy knoll near the muddy banks of the Mersey in Widnes, Cheshire.

This event was widely and lovingly dubbed as the ‘Baggy Woodstock’ due to its mini-festival nature. It helped to define the Madchester movement which saw an emergence of new music that mixed alternative rock, psychedelic rock and dance music. Sounds good eh! Take a look!
This exciting new film written by actor Chris Coghill who has teamed up with writer of Channel 4′s Misfits, Tom Green will tell a raw coming of age story of a group of young council estate hopefuls in an unsigned band and their rite-of-passage journey to making it big and living their dreams!
There is bound to be some big names in this flick as many of the musical appearances are expected to make a cameo in it, but no names have been released yet. We’ll keep our ear to the ground and keep you posted though!
Set to be filmed later this year, it will become the resurrection of this truly great British band and will help to seal their memory for all time.
We really can’t wait to see this one!
To get you in on what we’re looking forward to this new year, we thought we’d rustle up a little list of who we think will be the next chart toppers and festival rockers in the exciting times ahead. Click the images for a sneaky peek at the bands.

Well! Kicking things off with this four piece from Tennessee who have been referred to as ‘somewhere between Kings of Leon and U2’, that’s right! The big boys! Very much a band of big songs, loud choruses and buzzing guitar riffs, rounded off with the gutsy voice from front man Nick Brown. Winning combination in our eyes!
The Naked and Famous
This fresh faced electro pop rocked up band spurring from that distant land New Zealand, has already made a place for themselves in the charts with their debut release of their album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ back in September. We really hope they will continue to flood bedrooms and in student parties with their feel good beats. Stay tuned!
The Vaccines

For a band that have yet to release their debut album, there is already an impressive buzz surrounding this London indie group! The limited but impressive exposure of this band including a Later…With Jools Holland appearance was enough to get us and many others freeing up oh so precious space on our mp3 players in preparation for their album ‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?’ which will be hitting the shelves in March.
Brother

Another plucky band from the UK here! Full of attitude and great rifts, this quartet is set to change the face of Brit pop.
Yuck

Releasing their first album on February 21st, Yuck will bring more fast-paced energetic riffs and very impressive vocals from their leading lady, not to mention some pretty brave hair styles in the mix from some members!
Cloud Control

Meet Australia’s entrance into the indie-folk scene! Formed to take part in a music competition, the band has been lucky enough to support the likes of Vampire Weekend, Temper Trap, and Local Natives. With friends like that, watch out for these guys!
Some pretty exciting stuff here for you, hopefully more than enough to get your music taste buds tingling ready for the year ahead!
