THE HISTORY OF THE HUMBLE T-SHIRT

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-03-01 at 12.33.12

The humble t- shirt has come a long way since its origins back in 1913 when they held the function of regulation undergarments for the U.S Navy. Two decades on and the University of Southern California issued t-shirts to its football players to stop their shoulder pads chafing. It wasn’t until students started stealing these for casual-wear that they hit the fashion scene! This crime wave spawned the original printed t-shirts with the university stencilling ‘USC’ onto them as a crime prevention tactic.

You can’t say Amplified doesn’t teach you anything, but enough of the history lesson and back to 2013 where the t-shirt holds a pretty high position on the hierarchy of garments, particularly the printed t-shirt for Spring/Summer 13. With the likes of Commes Des Garcons, Henry Holland, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy rolling them out for the sunnier seasons you know you’re onto a winner.

So where can you get some cool and quirky printed t-shirts that won’t set you back a month’s rent. . . AMPLIFIED OF COURSE!

Head to the shopping part of this site to check out the t-shirts you’ll be ‘rocking’ this summer, because after all students committed crime to get these into fashion for you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM AMPLIFIED

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-01-17 at 16.29.04

A very (belated!) Happy New Year from everyone here at Amplified, we hope you aren’t feeling too down with the January blues.

If you are missing Christmas (and more importantly the time off!), why not take a trip down memory lane, turn up the heat and play some classic Rolling Stones to make you feel better? It is, after all, 49 years to the day since the band released their first ever EP; the imaginatively titled ‘The Rolling Stones’ had four covers of U.S. ‘rock ‘n’ soul’ classics.

Packed with Mick Jagger’s raspy vocals, the EP was in the UK charts for 11 weeks and shot straight to number one.

So forget the New Year’s resolution of going to the gym and pay homage to the iconic band by rocking out to their greatest albums and squeezing yourself into one of our great Rolling Stones designs.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas

The Santa hats are out, the Christmas songs are on the radio (more The Ramones’ Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight) than Mariah) and the office is feeling jolly – it can only be the happiest time of year!

As well as celebrating the arrival of a fat guy in a red suit bearing presents and the birth of the son of God, Christmas has some important musical anniversaries, too. In fact, the Sex Pistols played their last ever UK gig on Christmas Eve, 1977 and the Beatles’ nine-week run at number 1 on the UK chart began on Christmas Day 1965. The album? Rubber Soul, which spent an impressive 42 weeks in the chart in total.

Whatever your plans over the festive period, eat drink and be merry, but pay homage to the great musical anniversaries we have, too in your new Amplified t-shirt (because there is one under your tree, right?)

Merry Christmas from everybody at Amplified!

pink floyd

Pink Floyd fever has bought Amplified HQ to a stand still today leaving us all feeling a little ‘Comfortably Numb’!

On this evening in 1994, the band played the opening to a hefty 15-night run at Earls Court. Unfortunately, the first night didn’t quite go as planned – after a minute of playing, one of the stands holding the fans collapsed leading to the gig being cancelled.

Thankfully everyone was ok and with Pink Floyd not wanting to leave their fans feeling disappointed, the boys sent out a free T-shirt along with an apologetic note to the gig-goers and rescheduled the evening. We think that’s pretty awesome going!

So don’t be ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ and stand out in a Pink Floyd tee today from Amplifed. It might not be personally sent from the guys themselves but it’s the next best thing!

Festival fashion made simple

Photobucket

After the last few weeks, we think it’s safe to say that festival season is in full swing! Whether you have been lucky enough to grace Victoria Park for the marathon of festivals it has showcased (Field Day, Lovebox and most recently BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend), scathe with jealousy at the footage on the television or even just register for your Glastonbury 2013 ticket (364 days away exactly, not that we’re counting!) you were probably involved in the festival hype somehow!

Along with the music itself, we’ve also been watching to see which outfits appear on stage and have noticed a definite trend emerging – rock t-shirts paired with eclectic denim shorts, the definitive festival staple.

If you want to follow the stylish footsteps of Lana Del Rey, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah get yourself over to Pulp’s Amplified collection and bag your own rock tee. Layer under a khaki or leather jacket and wear with your best denims – festival fashion, done!
